Dr. Madesis Panagiotis was born in Thessaloniki on 19/01/1971, he is married and the father of two children. He studied at the School of Geotechnical Sciences of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Later he completed his postgraduate studies in the Laboratory of Plant Genetics and Improvement of the School of Geotechnical Sciences of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He also completed his doctoral dissertation in the same department. At the same time, the last year of his doctoral dissertation was held at the University of Manchester in the laboratory of plant science with an emphasis on the treatment of genetic material in chloroplasts. During this period he worked on a number of research projects. Madesis Panagiotis has completed his studies with the help of the following scholarships Marie Curie Scholarship at the University of Manchester, IKY State Scholarship Foundation. In 2004 he received a postdoctoral fellowship in the study of chloroplast DNA and worked at the School of Health Sciences, University of Manchester, in the plant science laboratory. Since October 2008 he holds the position of DG Level Researcher and from 01/10/2011 the DG Level Researcher at the Institute of Applied Life Sciences (INEB) His research interests are focused on the improvement of plants with conventional and biotechnological methods to increase production. , resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses, the production of valuable products, the genotyping of species and varieties, the assessment of biodiversity
through the identification and identification of species.
He teaches the course “Recombinant protein production systems” at the postgraduate department of the Agricultural University of Athens, gives lectures at the Department of Agriculture specializing in food technology on genetic and genomic technologies and has taught the Plant Improvement laboratory.
He is a member of the editorial team in the Journal of Plant Studies, and a reviewer in scientific journals and has published more than 90 scientific studies, 4 chapters in books with a total of more than 800 heteroreferences. He has also been invited as a keynote speaker at a large number of national and international workshops and conferences. Advisor of the committee JM 135086 / 31-1-2011, Office of Biotechnology Products, Directorate of Crop Production Inputs, Ministry of Rural Development and Food, for genetically modified plants.
He is also a member of the Marie Curie Fellows Association (MCFA), the Hellenic Society of Biological Sciences (EEBE) and the Geotechnical Chamber of Greece (GEOT.EE), the Hellenic Scientific Society for Plant Genetic Improvement (EEEGBF) of which since 2012 he is and a member of the Board of Directors, is finally the treasurer of the CERTH research association.
Dr. Madesis Panagiotis participates in the execution of funded projects, collaborates with private companies in conducting research for the improvement of plants, while he has also developed the methodology for the identification of plant species such as important products of designation of origin (PDO) fava Santorini, Beans, Feta cheese, olive oil, etc., and their traceability and the detection of possible counterfeiting in commercial products,
For his remarkable reasearch he was awarded in September 2013 by the Ministry of Rural Development and in October 2013 by the President of the Republic.
He is also the legal representative and one of the founders of the Urban Non-Profit Company Agricultural Entrepreneurship – AgriEnt.
